L or U? Choosing Between the Two 110 Inch Cloud Sectionals

Same footprint, different room

Both sets are 110 inches wide and 68.9 inches deep with the ottomans in front. The L puts one ottoman at one end and leaves the other end of the front open. The U fills that gap with a second ottoman.

On a plan the two look almost the same. In a room, the open corner of the L is where people walk in and sit down. On the U, everyone steps over or around an ottoman.

Who sits where

On the L, one person gets the chaise and two sit upright. On the U, two people can stretch out at once with one sitting in the middle. Families who watch films lying down tend to pick the U. Households that have guests over to talk tend to pick the L.

The walkway question

If the couch floats in the middle of the room, the U closes off the front and the back becomes the way around it. If it is against a wall facing a TV, check that the gap between the ottomans and the TV stand stays walkable.

Making the bed

Either set becomes a flat surface when the ottomans slide into the front row. The U gives a wider sleeping area because there are two ottomans to fill the space. Neither has a fold-out mechanism, and the pieces do not lock, so a fitted sheet over the seats helps hold them.

Changing your mind later

This is where modules earn their keep. An L plus one extra ottoman is a U. A U with one ottoman pulled away is an L with a spare footrest. If you are torn, start with the L and add the ottoman module when you know how you use the room.
